During WWII, Benjamin survived Bataan as a POW. Among his awards were the Purple Heart, POW Medal, American Defense Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Defense Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of DAV, VFW, Union Protectiva, Agua Fria Senior Center, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Civil Service Retirement System.1
