Christie entered the US Nurse Corps in 1943. She served at Mare Island, CA, Fallon, NV, Adak, AK, Houston, TX, Bremerton, WA, and San Diego, CA. She retired from the Navy in 1952.

Christie was born Evelyn Eunice Jenkins to Lula and Sam Jenkins in Bangor, AL. While in the Navy, she met Clyde Christie and they married in Bremerton, WA. They eventually moved to Albuquerque, NM where she worked as a nurse at the Santa Fe Railroad Hospital.
