Lt. Colonel Irl Edgar “Baldy” Baldwin was a Command Pilot of the B-17 Hell’s Angels (#41-24577) during WWII. The bomber was the first heavy bomber in the 8th Air Force to complete 25 missions. 

Baldwin was born on September 23rd, 1920, in Yakima, Washington, to Earl Edgar Baldwin and Jessie Margaret Thompson. In September of 1944, Baldwin married Pvt. Carolyn Octavia McDargh. In 1955, the Baldwins moved to Albuquerque and fell in love with the city. They bought a house in Hoffmantown, and they never sold it because they both always knew they would return to it. In 1959, Shannon Kay Baldwin was born and the family was transferred to Alexandria, Virginia. The Baldwins later returned to Albuquerque.

He died on February 19th, 2002, in Bernalillo, at the age of 81. Baldwin is buried in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
