Lance Corporal Philip Martinez, Jr. was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 until 1968, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. 

Martínez was born on October 12, 1945, in La Puente, New Mexico, to Odilia Chávez Martínez and Philip J. Martínez Sr. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1963 and received a bachelor’s degree in biology and physical Education from Eastern New Mexico University in 1972. 

Philip Christopher Martínez, Jr. passed away from complications from Parkinson’s Disease caused by exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War on June 17th, 2017, at the age of 71.
