Rutelio Alejandro Martinez was born in Rodarte, New Mexico. He served with 27th Infantry Division, which participated in several campaigns in the Pacific during World War II. His military occupation is listed as “machine gunner light.” Martinez was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal for his service.1
After the war, Martinez a resident of Peñasco, New Mexico, and passed away after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his sons: Robert Martinez and Alex Martinez Jr.; wife Estella Martinez; grandson Earl Trujillo; daughter-in-law Frances Pacheco.2
